Here is how the various criteria affect the rebate amount:

Criteria Taken into Account When Calculating the Rebate

Criteria Impact on Rebate Amount
Type of vehicle chosen

All-electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles are eligible for a higher rebate than other electric vehicles.

Manufacturer’s suggested retail price For all-electric vehicles and hydrogen-powered vehicles, the maximum rebate is obtained if the manufacturer’s suggested retail price is less than $75 000. If the price is $75 000 or more but less than $125 000, the rebate is $3 000.

For plug-in hybrid vehicles, the manufacturer’s suggested retail price must be less than $75 000.
Electric battery capacity of the vehicle

The electric battery must have a minimum capacity of 4 kWh.

Furthermore, in the case of plug-in hybrid vehicles, the higher the electric battery capacity, the bigger the rebate. The rebate is $500 if the battery has a capacity equal to or greater than 4 kWh but less than 7 kWh; $4 000 if the capacity is equal to or greater than 7 kWh but less than 15 kWh; and $8 000 if the battery capacity is equal to or greater than 15 kWh.

Purchase or lease The rebate on a leased vehicle is calculated in proportion to the number of months of leasing.

On a lease of 48 months or more, the rebate is equal to the purchase rebate.
Date of the transaction

The amount of the rebate for an all-electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid vehicle can vary depending on the registration date.

Registration date

To qualify for the program, the new vehicle must be registered for the first time in Québec between November 1, 2013, and December 31, 2020 if it is an all-electric, plug-in hybrid or low-speed electric vehicle.

New electric motorcycles must be registered between October 9, 2015 and December 31, 2020.
Hydrogen-powered vehicles and limited-speed electric motorcycles must be registered between April 1, 2017 and December 31, 2020.

Purchase or lease

For long-term leases, the rebate amount is calculated based on the number of months the vehicle is leased.

For example, if your customer chooses a vehicle that would qualify for a purchase rebate of $8,000 and opts for a 24 month lease, the rebate will be $4,000.

Customers who commit to a 48 month or longer lease term will qualify for an amount equal to the purchase rebate, i.e., $8,000.

In all cases, a lease lasting over 48 months will qualify for a rebate equal to the purchase rebate.
